From Developer to Founder: Building Oroboros—A Tool Designed to Protect Your Focus and Future

Let me share a story with you, because as I’ve always said, ā€œYour life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change.ā€ Here’s my change.

I earned a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Computer Science. For years, I saw myself as a developer—someone who builds things when given specs or assignments. But over time, I realized something profound: Technical skills are only about 10% of what it takes to create something meaningful. The other 90%? It’s about ownership, persistence, and understanding real human needs.

You see, even the most perfect code or the most flawless app doesn’t guarantee success if it doesn’t change behavior. Math and algorithms have their limits. They can’t solve the messy, unpredictable challenges of human habits and decisions. I struggled with this for years—trying productivity tools, only to ditch them in less than a week. They were either too rigid or failed to adapt to the chaos of life and work.

Meanwhile, social media companies are spending billions to hijack your attention. They’re experts at distraction. So I asked myself, ā€œIf they’re investing to pull you away from your goals, why not build something that fights for you? Something that protects your focus and your future?ā€ That’s when my mindset shifted. I stopped seeing myself as just a developer. I became a founder—someone who builds not just software, but systems that can change lives. Starting with mine.

I was inspired by people without technical backgrounds who created meaningful products. If they could do it, I thought, ā€œWhy not me?ā€ I already had the technical skills. It was time to put them to work for something bigger than code. That’s how Oroboros was born. It’s a personal development OS designed for clarity, not clutter. It’s an assistant that works with your goals, not against them. A space that grows with you, adapts to your reality, and respects your mind.

Now, let me be clear: This isn’t just a product I’m building. It’s a system I want to live by. A way to turn technical skills into something that matters—something that helps others stay on track while helping me reclaim my own focus and future.

Oroboros is for people like me—like you—who are tired of being pulled in every direction. It’s for those who are ready to take ownership of their time, their attention, and their growth. Why the name? Early ideas like ā€œLife Sagaā€ felt too casual. ā€œInterplanetary Self-Actualization Engineā€ was too long (though it captured the ambition). Oroboros, symbolizing renewal and cycles, felt just right.

And yes, I’m building Oroboros to make a living—but not in the traditional sense. I’m independent and self-funded, operating as a one-person team without investors or debt. I’ve chosen the subscription business model because it’s sustainable, honest, and aligned with my values. It’s funded solely by the people who believe in this mission: you. I want to prove that you can build something valuable because it helps others—and that’s the integrity I’m committed to.

"Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live."
Take care of your mind. It’s the only tool you have to create.
Take care of your time. It’s the only resource you can’t get back.

Oroboros is here to help you do all three. Let’s build the future—together. šŸāœØ

FAQ

What exactly is Oroboros, and how is it different from other productivity apps?

Oroboros is more than just a productivity app—it's a personal development OS born from my own struggles with focus, distraction, and the limits of traditional tools. Unlike apps that only track habits or tasks, Oroboros is designed to help you take ownership of your time, attention, and growth. It combines habit tracking, task management, AI coaching, and gamification, all built around the real needs of people who want to create meaningful change in their lives. Oroboros is for those who are tired of being pulled in every direction and want a system that adapts to their reality, not the other way around.

What’s the role of the AI in the app?

The AI in Oroboros acts as a supportive assistant, helping you plan, reflect, and stay on track—without the complexity or rigidity of most tools. Inspired by my own experience with apps that failed to adapt to real life, I built Oroboros to offer a natural, conversational interface that guides you, helps you organize, and adapts to your needs. You can interact with the AI for guidance or use a classic interface if you prefer. The goal is to make personal growth feel intuitive and human, not overwhelming or robotic.

How does the gamification work?

Gamification in Oroboros is about making progress visible and meaningful, not just adding points for the sake of it. The app tracks your actions—like completing tasks, building habits, or reflecting—and rewards you with XP, skill levels, and achievements. This approach is rooted in my belief that growth should feel motivating and fun, but always in service of real, positive change. Oroboros uses gamification to help you see your journey and stay engaged, not to manipulate or distract you.

Will Oroboros be free to use?

As an independent, self-funded founder, I’m committed to building Oroboros sustainably and ethically. There will be a free tier, but with some limits—especially on AI features—to keep the app viable. I’ve chosen a subscription model because it aligns with my values: no ads, no selling your data, and no outside investors. The app is funded solely by people who believe in the mission. Free accounts may be limited and scaled based on how many paid users we have, ensuring quality for everyone.

Can I invite friends or use Oroboros with a team?

Oroboros is starting as a tool for individuals, because meaningful change begins with personal ownership. As the app grows, I plan to add collaborative features for friend groups and teams, but always with a focus on privacy and customization. If you’re interested in these features, let me know—your feedback will help shape the future of Oroboros.

Will you support mobile or desktop apps?

Oroboros is a web app that works on any device with a browser—desktop, tablet, or phone. My goal is to make it accessible to everyone from day one. I plan to offer a Progressive Web App (PWA) so you can install Oroboros like a native app, and if there’s enough demand, I’ll consider building full mobile or desktop apps in the future. Your feedback will help guide these decisions.
